Lock and Key Party for Ukraine

5 May 2022
Many of you may not know, but a lot of the SpeedDater team are based in Ukraine and currently living through this horrific war. They are all astonishingly brave and strong individuals who have refused to give up their homes. We're all incredibly proud to know and work with them every day and we wouldn’t be the organisation we are today without them. It has been devastating to see the nightmare they and their families have been forced to live through. What they’re experiencing is unimaginable.

Though we aren’t able to do much to help, we can show support for all those affected by this war. That’s why the SpeedDater UK team organised a fundraising Lock & Key party this month to help support Ukraine, and we are so deeply touched by the response our customers gave.

Through ticket sales, raffle prizes, sunflower badge sales, and the cake sale, we raised a total of £1,615. A fantastic result! We are so grateful to all who came and showed their support and contributed to our fundraising. We had thought long and hard about where we’d like the money to be donated and after some research we chose to split it between two charities, Sunflower of Peace & Voices of Children. These are two fantastic charities raising money and awareness for Ukraine.

Sunflower of Peace provides medical and humanitarian aid that will be used by the paramedics and doctors in the areas that are affected by the violence in Ukraine. They are acquiring and distributing first-aid backpacks, medicine, medical instruments, and other means of survival that are saving hundreds of lives.

Voices of Children give psychological and psychosocial support to children who suffered as a result of war operations. It helps them to win the consequences of the war and develop themselves. They also help families cope with everyday difficulties, treatment, and rehabilitation of children, giving individual support. Their objective is that every child who has suffered from the war in Ukraine must get psychological help in time.

I would also like to take a moment to thank all the SpeedDater staff that worked the event and kindly volunteered their time while also working so hard and passionately for us during the event. We are also very grateful to The Drift who donated a £50 voucher towards the raffle. Everyone has been so supportive and kind during this time and we are so overwhelmed that everyone is showing so much kindness and willingness to help.
