5 text messages you should never send a guy you’re dating
Research shows texting is more common than calling when dating, which might not come as a surprise. But be warned, there is such a thing as too much texting. Any forms of instant messaging make us think we are due an instant reply, which can often lead to unnecessary insecurities. It’s also really difficult to understand the tone of the conversation, which could be misunderstood as being too brisk or cheeky. It’s important to make sure you are not always the texting initiator. Sure, you may be getting replies, but are you being asked any questions? Any communication while dating needs to needs to be a 2 way street. Keep initial text chats light with plenty of banter, and definitely don’t send any of the following texts. Ever.
1. The “just checking you got my last message?” text
Yep, he did. He’s either busy or sleeping and will reply later. Unless you keep sending messages which makes you look needy, in which case he will block your number. If your love interest is not replying because he doesn’t fancy you, sending one more message won’t help your cause. Give him time to reply and if he doesn’t move on graciously. Don’t become this girl: This is what crazy looks like via Text Messaging. HILARIOUS.
2. The “I love you” for the first time text
Awkward x 2 if you sent it when you were drunk. Save it for in person.
3. The 2am “what are you up to?” text
He’s sleeping or partying and you are making yourself seem very available. If that’s the look you are going for.. go you. But if you are wanting something with long term potential pull it together, have a glass of water and sleep it off.
4. The extreme sarcasm text
It’s hard to convey sarcasm over text and you can come off aggressive. This may sound obvious but read it back before you send it without a sarcastic tone and see if it can be misconstrued.
5. The “YOU’RE SO F*CKING ANNOYING” text
Ok so you’re angry. But once you hit send you can’t take it back! Black and white writing is there forever. Always sort issues out in person, especially during the early days of dating someone. You need all the help you can get with body language and tone of voice when you don’t know someone very well.
Happy dating everyone!
Till next time..
